The Black Bear Guai is a powerful boss who you will find at Bodhi Peak, ensure you have used your Sparks to upgrade your skills and abilities according to your playstyle, for me I focused on Health, Crit Damage and Immobilization enhancements but given the varied playstyles on offer do what works best for you. The Bear is extremely hard hitting so keeping yourself agile and away from his paws and body slams is very important. Having the Wandering Wight Spirit equipped will be very useful as you get a nice boost to defence which could be the difference between dying in 2 hits or 3.
The Bear can turn into mist similar to how to the Black Wind King boss did except this time you will have fire damage to deal with as well as as the hits and timing can be strict so do your best and learn through failure then avoid the running slam the Bear will do to come out of his mist state. The Bear is also fairly unrelenting in his attacks and combos so make good use of the Immobilize and Red Tides spells as well as the newly acquired Cloud Step which you can end with a powerful staggering kick.
When the Bear starts making flame jets shoot from the floor stay out of the way ensuring you lean more towards defence then offence for a time until the flames stop as getting caught in a combo then being blasted by a flame is a good way to end your run. Follow the Chapter 1 walkthrough to ensure you have every possible helpful item, Curios, Spirit and anything else you may need where you will eventually be able to bring the beast down concluding Chapter 1.
