NIOH 3 Eternal Rift Myths

Here we will go over all of the NIOH 3 Eternal Rifts Myths of which there are 3 to complete all of which you can do by the end of the Heian Era whilst you help the Blacksmith recover her Memories.

Myths in NIOH 3 are essentially non-replayable Sub Missions as in you only get to do the Myths once per playthrough which is a shame as some of them are a lot better than the repeatable Sub Missions with a small handful of exceptions which cause Myths to, in part, be playable via the Battle Scroll. Myths will be marked on the Map as well as you get close to the area where they can be started or by upgrading your Exploration Level to then reveal the Map and all other elements found inside a given District.

2 of the Myths in the Eternal Rift can be started once you get to the Heian Era, however, you will have a fair amount to do and you need to be component in the Crucible before you can complete them all and give the number of Yokai you will have to deal with along the way it’s best to get these done after the Heian story has concluded.

Eternal Rift Myths

The 3 Myths you need to complete in the Eternal Rift are as follows:

A Fierce Flame.
Memories in the Blade.
The Value of Perfection.

A Fierce Flame

Quest Giver: Fox-masked Blacksmith.
Pre-Requisite: Clear the Crucible Manifested story mission.
Speak to the Blacksmith who will ask you to recover something to help her memory so head over to the Lake Sanaru-Waterside Shrine and clear the Lesser Crucible which then allows you to to run up to the very top of the hill using the Spirit Veins to traverse the gaps.

There is also a Scampuss and a Kodama up here as well so grab them as you go and once you’re at the very top of the Temple open the box to receive the Kagutsuchi’s Magatama. Return to the Blacksmith with the Kagutsuchi’s Magatama to finish this Myth.

Memories In The Blade

Quest Giver: Fox-masked Blacksmith.
Pre-Requisite: Clear the Sacred Mountain Defiled story mission.
I don’t recommend beginning the Memories in the Blade Myth until you have concluded the Story in the Heian Era by clearing the Frozen City, Blazing Tree Story Mission as you need access to the Crucible to get one of the 3 legendary swords the Blacksmith asks you to recover. This can only be done provided you have also completed the A Fierce Flame Myth which begins the Blacksmith’s questline.

You need to go to 3 different locations in the Heian Era, loot the chests that are there and collect 3 Legendary Blades which then need returning to the Blacksmith who in turn will begin to remember who she really is. The 3 Blades you need to recover and their respective locations are as follows:

Mikazuki Munechika.
Travel to the Matsuo-taisha Shrine: Ascetic Cave Shrine in the Sagano region then head down the path and go round to the top of the stairs killing any Yokai and Mages who aggro. Take a right through the Bamboo then jump onto the roof of the building on your left and drop through the hole in the roof. Loot the chest inside to collect the Mikazui Munechika Blade. Return this to the Blacksmith.
Dojikiri Yasutsune.
Next, travel to the Nishiichi Shrine in the Hachijo region and go North West up the ladder before following the path up to the One-Eyed Oni who knocks the Snowball down at you. Either run past or deal with the Yokai in the local area just aim for the crates hiding the Spirit Vein you can take over the rocks to the temple behind which will be an altar which holds the Dojikiri Yasutsuna Sword. Return this to the Blacksmith.
Odenta Mitsuyo.
Load up the Frozen City, Blazing Tree Story Mission at the Battle Scroll then fight through to the Palace Grounds:: Shomei Gate Boddhisatva Statue. Go up the hill and kill the 2 Jailers before looking at the small building at the top of the hill. If you get to the One-Eyed Oni you have gone to far so enter the building which spawns a Magatsu Warrior who is easier to deal with if you take the fight outside. Once the Magatsu Warrior is down, loot the chest which holds the Odenta Mitsuyo sword. Return this to the Blacksmith.

With all 3 legendary swords returned to the Blacksmith she will then remember her name, her Grandfather and who she really is, Senji Toyo, she will then be able to forge much better gear for you once the Memories in the Blade Myth is completed, this also unlocks the Senji Toyo achievement.

The Value Of Perfection

Quest Giver: Matsuanaga Hisehide.
Pre-Requisite: Clear the Sacred Mountain Defiled story mission.
Matsunaga Hisehide can be found in the Teahouse in the Eternal Rift and he has a job for you revolving around a good old cup of tea. This Myth will be a lot easier if you have cleared the Enemy Base in the North East of the Nishiichi region in the Heian Era which then makes the Driftwood Fortress Shrine available.

Speak to Matsunage in the Teahouse where you will go through a few different screens if its the first time speaking with him then travel over to the Driftwood Fortress Shrine in the Nishiichi region. Look at the tower behind the Shrine which you can mantle up to the chest which holds the Huge Celadon Jar, return to the Eternal Rift and give the jar to Matsunaga who won’t be happy with it.

Return to the Driftwood Fortress Shrine in the Heian Era, turn around the go towards the bridge aiming for the right side behind the hay bales where you can loot the Gorgeous Celadon Tea Bowl from the Corpse. Return this to Matsunaga who will then be very impressed and after some dialogue the Myth will complete.
