Here we will go over how you can find and track the NIOH 3 1864 CE Bakumatsu Scampuss of which there are 5 in total for you to chase down in the third Era of NIOH 3.

Scampuss are small, Yokai Cats who, once you get close and try to pet will be startled and run away, it’s down to you to give chase and track the Scampuss down and if you lose sight of the Scampuss you’ll have a few seconds to reacquire it, if not then rest at a Shrine which then resets the Scampuss and you can try again and make no mistake, some of these things can be hard to keep up with especially when it comes to rockier areas as one slip can see you needing to start again.
Rewards wise you will receive either a Ninja’s Locks, a Samurai’s Locks but as well you will always receive a Scampuss Furball which you can take to the Giant Scampuss in the Eternal Rift for extra rewards and on rare occasions the Scampuss have a chance of dropping their Soul Core as well. So all in all they’re well worth chasing down.
Bakumatsu Scampuss
The 5 Scampuss in the Bakumatsu Era you need to chase down can be found at the following locations in their respective districts which are as follows:
Shichijo
There is 1 Scampuss to chase down in the Shichijo region which is the
Premium gamer mugs, dishwasher safe, free delivery.

Closest Shrine: Shichijo, Shichijo Gambling Den.
Rewards: Scampuss Furball.
Go South East from the Gambling Den Shrine out on to the main path to find this Scampuss, once you have tried to pet it chase the Cat over to the roof of the Den. You then need to go right and follow the path up and round to your left where you can do a big double jump to get onto the roof. Once on there it’s a short path to catch the Scampuss up the stairs and across the platforms.
Sanjo
There is 1 Scampuss to chase down in the Sanjo region which is the
Oshikoji Street Scampuss
Closest Shrine: Sanjo, Oshijoki Street.
Rewards: Scampuss Furball.
The path to this Scampuss can be a dangerous one as you have to go into a Yokai infested part of town with Dwellers and Wheelmonks so either clear the area first or just be aware of the enemies as you chase down the Scampuss who can initially be found West of the Oshikoji Street Shrine on the street.
Chase the Scampuss to the hay bales and wooden platforms you can take up to the roof, make a left then run straight being careful to not fall back down to the starting point. Sprint along the rooftops then at the next left turn stay right to land on the small platform bridging the gap between the 2 buildings. Run to the end to pet the Scampuss.
Gion
There is 1 Scampuss to chase down in the Gion region which is the
Shrine Walk Greatwood Scampuss
Closest Shrine: Gion , Shrine Walk Greatwood.
Rewards: Scampuss Furball.
This Scampuss which can be found just North West of the Shrine Walk Greatwood Shrine is one you need to sneak up using the long grass and strategic jumps, if you come out of the grass to early or are spotted you need to rest at the Shrine to reset the Scampuss allowing you to try again.
Run up the stairs to the platform and interact with the Scampuss then drop down to the tall grass on the right side, crouch and move slowly through coming out when you’re close to the Scampuss. Once it runs down the hill jump over the railings to your left to land behind the rocks, crouch and go through the grass to the Scampuss.
Go up the stairs to your right, jump over the banister to the long grass below, crouch then slowly approach the Scampuss. Jump up to the upper section of open land and sprint through the grass before dropping down onto the Scampuss who you can then run up to near the logs you can kick down to make a shortcut where you can finally pet the Scampuss.
Mibu
There is 1 Scampuss to chase down in the Mibu region which is the
Horikawa Market Scampuss
Closest Shrine: Nijo Castle, Horikawa Market.
Rewards: Scampuss Furball.
Before you can enter the Mibu region you firstly need to have cleared the Lesser Crucible in the South West of the Nijo Castle. You will have some tough enemies to take down at the end of the path as well so go in geared up.
Interact with the Scampuss who is up on the right ledge once you enter the Mibu region who you then need to chase across the path to the ledges on the left side of the area and you basically then follow the linear path to the end using the Spirit Veins to traverse the gaps. At the end you will be attacked by Skeleton Soldiers and a Karasu Tengu. Kill all of the Yokai where you can then pet the Scampuss.
Kyoto Imperial Palace
There is 1 Scampuss to chase down in the Kyoto Imperial Palace region which is the
Maruta Riverbed Scampuss
Closest Shrine: Kyoto Imperial Palace, Maruta Riverbed.
Rewards: Scampuss Furball.
You will need to have cleared the optional Beast of the Underworld Sub Mission in the Shichijo region where you follow Kasha’s trail to the warehouse before putting her down. Thomas Glover will then give you access to the Cannons throughout the Bakumatsu Era and we need one for this Scampuss.
Go East from the Maruta Riverbed Shrine and fire the Cannon at the pink crystals which may or may not aggro a Yamabiko so kill it if it does come over then go up the stairs and try to pet the Scampuss. Follow the Scampuss jumping over the wooden railings then at the end of the path you will be ambushed by a One-Eyed Imp and an Ubume both of who you need to put down before you can pet this Scampuss.
