NIOH 3 is packed full of bosses both optional and mandatory all of which having their styles, challenges and rewards. Here we will go over all of the bosses you can face as you make your way through the third era in the game, 1864 CE Bakumatsu of which there are 43 available.
The Bosses in the Bakumatsu Era are incredibly challenging and plentiful. Most of the bosses are found in Myths but there are also a good number wandering the streets and I hope you’re not afraid of Spiders as Joro-Gumo has made a very unwelcome return and she is not in a good mood should you find yourself in her lair.
The Shinsengumi Ghosts are out in force in the 19th century as well and these guys pack an incredible punch across every encounter. Then there’s the Crucible which can be next level, however, things are made easier by ensuring you complete the Myths before trying to finish your time in 1864.
Bakumatsu Bosses
The Bosses in Bakumatsu don’t ever start to thin out and there are plenty tucked away in areas you won’t even go to as part of the story but rest assured, I have dug them all out of their hiding places and some make the story bosses look timid in comparison so if you do find a boss who is just to tough, come back later in the game and have another go. I have broken the bosses in the Bakumatsu Era down into 5 main categories where they can be found which are as follows:
Premium gamer mugs, dishwasher safe, free delivery.

There are 3 bosses who you will need to take down as you progress through the story in the Bakumatsu Era all of who are as follows:
- Takasugi Shinsaku.
- Nuribotoke.
- Onryoki. Optional.
- Tokugawa Yoshinobu.
Okita Soji will also be in the Crucible but only if you haven’t completed Solitary Blade Sub Mission at Mibu Temple.
Takasugi Shinsaku
Mission: The Sweet Sound of Strings.
Takasugi Shinsaku is your first real introduction to gun based combat in NIOH 3 utilised by a boss and his Pistol can really ruin your day when combined with those brutal sword attacks. You will have a high amount of skill already having made it to Bakumatsu so utilise the abilities you have and grind out a few more levels if you need them.
Nuribotoke
Mission: Accursed Temple.
Nuribotoke is found at the back of the first Crucible in the Bakumatsu Era in the Accursed Temple Story Mission and is best described as stretchy, flexible rock who can smash you about with great ease. Nuribotoke, being a statue you would think it would be fairly cumbersome and slow but in reality it is anything but, especially in the Yokai Realm where it can cover great distances very quickly whilst also having the power you’d expect from a statue enemy.
Use Lightning which is fairly effect as is Water, Fire not so much and it is very resistance to most physical damage so players who are used to using Onmyo and Ninjitsu to compliment their build will have an easier time of it here. Learn the attack patterns as best as you can which again is tricky given how sporadic they can be but you will get there with this fight.
Onryoki
Mission: Scion of the Gods.
Onryoki is an optional boss who you can find pacing around in the sub level of the Crucible during the Scion of the Gods Story Mission. Proceed through to where the Yasha and the 2 Gaki can be found before going up to the upper levels with the red Wraiths. Smash the boxes in the top right corner then follow the path to the Spirit Vein you can take down to Onryoki’s arena. As always, Onryoki is a very aggressive Brute who likes to smash his balls down and around to inflict severe damage then once the chains are broken you will have the balls thrown at you whilst trying to deal with the overwhelming this thing possesses.
Tokugawa Yoshinobu
Mission: Scion of the Gods.
Tokugawa Yoshinobu is the big bad of the Scion of the Gods Story Mission which takes place in the final Crucible in the Bakumatsu Era. Before going through to fight him you firstly need to ensure you have completed the Solitary Blade Sub Mission which you can begin after completing the Peerless Katana Myth where you kill Okita Soji. If you haven’t completed the Solitary Blade Sub Mission you will have to fight Okita Soji then go straight into the Tokugawa Yoshinobu fight which is bad times by any measure.
Tokugawa Yoshinobu rides his twin headed Fish with great skill and uses the Fish to slap you about as well as having a grab attack which can easily 3/4 your health. His primary Element of offence is Water so defend against Water whilst using Lightning, Fire and even Wind to inflict heavy damage with Lightning being the best Element. Use your Living Weapon to finish Tokugawa off if needs be which will then conclude the Story in the Bakumatsu Era.
Myth Bosses
There are 11 bosses who you will need to take down as you make your way through the 11 Myths in the Bakumatsu Era which are as follows:
Saito Hajime
Myth: Shinsengumi Scheme.
You will be able to fight, Saito Hajime at the end of the Shinsengumi Scheme Myth by going right at the cut out after working your way down the rooftops passing the Riflemen and the cannon operator. Collect the item at the back of the alcove to spawn Saito who is incredibly proficient with his Odachi in both verticality and horizontal swipes so wait for the attacks to begin to know whether you should stay on the ground or attack from above. Lightning works well to slow him down but ultimately, with Saito being a Samurai, he’s going to do a good job of kicking your ass if you let him.
Ibrakai Doji
Myth: Sealed in the Stone Urn.
Ibaraki Doji is back from the Heian Era and can be fought once you find her arm in the Stone Urn during the Sealed in the Stone Urn Myth and she is still a pain to deal with. Fortunately you will be a lot more powerful than the last time you met but make no mistake she still packs enough to power and skill to send you 6ft under. Use Water, defend against Lightning and lay her and her arm to rest for the final time.
Nagakura Shinpachi
Myth: Peerless Katana.
Nagakura Shinpachi is a brutal Shinsengumi Samurai with a Lightning Odachi and 2 other Samurai to help him not that you will need it as even though you have Takasugi Shinsaku help you in this fight as part of the Peerless Katana Myth you may struggle here.
You won’t really have to worry about combo attacks what you will have instead is sheer, overwhelming brute force designed to 2 shot you at best so make sure you manage your Ki as getting worn out against Nagakura is a sure fire way to be freed from your Mortal Coil.
Mezuki
Myth: Ryoma’s Bequeathment.
Ryoma’s Bequeathment tasks you with accompanying Himiko to an area where you collect a Letter for her, you are then ambushed by several waves of Yokai culminating in a fight against Mezuki who seems to love trying to grab you then slam that weapon down to finish the fight early. It felt to me like this Mezuki had been sped up from previous encounters so ensure you match its agility with your own and favour aerial attacks over grounding out.
Ryomen Sukuna
Myth: Seeking Spirit Stones.
Once you have travelled back to the Heian Era in the Seeking Spirit Stones Myth, “defeat” the Mages who then summon Ryomen Sukuna and it is the final Ryomen Sukuna you will face in the main game as such it can be a brutal fight especially if you don’t have any Lightning offence. Use the size of the arena to your advantage whilst peppering Sukuna with Onmyo and Ninjitsu from a distance before getting in there when its combo has finished to lay some pain of your own down.
Enki
Myth: A Present From Whom?.
The A Present From Whom Myth will become available once you have completed the Seeking Spirit Stones Myth and is a fairly simple with a few enemies to bring down in the Pleasure District, once you’re done in the Geisha House return to Glover who will ask you to check on his convoy. Go to the tower and kill the Soldiers there which then spawns in an Enki, you will have fought several of these by this point so this one shouldn’t be more than a small bump in the road.
Kyokotsu
Myth: Well, Well, Well.
This Kyokotsu barely registers on the screen as a boss and given the enemies you will have taken down in the Well, Well, Well Myth this fight shouldn’t cause you a lot of issues providing you don’t fall off the cliff.
Jakotsu-Baba
Myth: Seeking Rare Yokai.
The Seeking Rare Yokai Myth is a secret Myth in Bakumatsu which only unlocks once you have completed a secret Myth in the Heian Era called Yokai Horde Picture Scroll which you can start in the Kamo Village region.
Once you have the Seeking Rare Yokai Myth available, go to the various locations and paint Kusanagi. Return to where you began the Myth expecting a chat with the Ghost, instead you will be ambushed by an incredibly powerful Jakotsu-Baba who you will remember from the Crucible Manifested Story Mission all the way back in the Warring States.
She has been doing a lot of juicing in the 3 centuries that have passed since your last encounter and she is a nightmare to bring down, fortunately, you will have a lot more skill than you would have done at what was lets face it the start of the game so use Lightning and Wind to inflict heavy damage, avoid the grab and slams whilst trying to get behind her to punish.
Karasu Tengu + Yamainu
Myth: Doctor’s Pride.
The Doctor’s Pride Myth can be started after you complete the Kiyomizu Defiled Sub Mission by speaking to Kusumoto Ine, West of the Gambling Den. Once you have the Ishida’s Medicine, return to Kusumoto where the 2 Shinsengumi the medicine was meant for have turned into Yokai bosses. You will need to fight the Karasu Tengu at the same time as the Yamainu. It won’t matter who you bring down first, look at the one who is giving you the most hassle and kill them first. With the first boss down it shouldn’t take you long to drop the second.
Enenra
Myth: Old Medicine, New Problems.
The Enenra will spawn in the courtyard once you have tracked down the Tomato Merchant in the Old Medicine, New Problems Myth which you can begin after the Doctor’s Pride Myth and have taken out the Shogunate Soldiers. The Enenra is a powerful Fire Yokai who can summon wide AOE blasts of Fire with delays from the ground. It also has a very nasty tornado throw which inflicts heavy Fire damage so use Water, Wind and Lightning to inflict decent damage until you’re rewarded with a Tomato.
Sub Mission Bosses
There are 7 Sub Missions in the Bakumatsu Era which hold the following 16 Bosses:
- Beast of the Underworld.
- Nobunaga’s Blade.
- Solitary Blade.
- Kiyomizu Defiled.
- Crucible Tour.
- Drawn to Yokai Essence.
- Shinsengumi: Best of Five.
Kasha
Sub Mission: Beast of the Underworld.
Head East and North from the Shichijo Avenue Ruins Shrine passing or defeating the Shinsengumi Member Hattori Takeo boss and use the Spirit Vein to your right before you get to the Aberrant Soldiers. This will begin the Beast of the Underworld Sub Mission which tasks you with following the fire tracks down through to the Warehouse where Kasha will be waiting for you.
Kasha is a Fire Yokai who rides 2 wheels and has a Whip which can extend to wherever you are currently waiting for your next beating. The wheels as well give her outstanding agility and the ability to leave fire tracks in her wake as she skates around the arena. Use Water or Wind to help deal more damage and guarding against Fire is all but essential here.
Red Kappa
Sub Mission: Nobunaga’s Blade.
The Red Kappa isn’t much to worry about as bosses go, the main threat during the Nobunaga’s Blade Sub Mission are the enemies you will face along the way as you chase the Red Kappa. The main threat comes in the form of the Yokai who accompany the Red Kappa during the fight so kill them if they get in the way, if not then focus all of your attacks on the Red Kappa which then dismisses all other Yokai in the arena.
Okita Soji
Sub Mission: Solitary Blade.
Okita Soji is the leader of the Shinsengumi, a group of elite Samurai and taking him down during the Solitary Blade Sub Mission which you can start after you have completed the Peerless Katana Myth is farly essential. If you don’t take Okita down he will then be waiting for you before you fight Tokugawa Yoshinobu at the back of the Scion of the Gods story mission so kill him in the Solitary Blade Sub Mission and it’s only 1 Crucible you have to deal with.
Okita Soji is found inside Mibu Temple and thankfully the dev’s have put a Shrine right outside the door and for good reason, this Samurai might be sick but that just seems to make him more powerful. You will have some incredibly hard hitting combos which you need to either block, parry if your weapon allows or dodge whilst countering with your own attacks.
Don’t go aerial against Okita as he will bring you down with a very hard vertical strike instead wait for the openings which whilst small will give you chance to either heal or attack you won’t often have time do both as Okita Soji is unrelenting but not immortal so use your best attacks and even the Living Weapon if you need to all of which will help you take the win which then removes the main threat from the final Bakumatsu Crucible.
Hijikata Toshizo
Sub Mission: Kiyomizu Defiled.
Fight your way through the Gaki and Wraiths to the platform after the Ubume in the Kiyomizu Defiled Sub Mission where Hijikata Toshizo will be waiting for you. Hijikata wields ual swords, has a very high defence, over the top levels of power and a seemingly never ending Ki bar. Use Sloth Talismans to help slow him then punish with Fire, Lightning and aerial attacks which seem to do a good amount of damage. Avoid those hard hitting strikes and combos as much as you can and try to save some resources as you still have a fair old trek to the next Shrine.
Kondo Isami
Sub Mission: Kiyomizu Defiled.
Kondo Isami will be waiting for you just before the final Shrine in the Kiyomizu Defiled Sub Mission which is good and bad news. Bad as if you have taken a beating from the Gaki, Flying Bolt, Umbrellas, Wraiths and the Karasu Tengu before getting to Kondo you will be low on resources but good as you can throw everything you have at him without needing to worry about getting through any more enemies afterwards.
Try to avoid aerial attacks as he has plenty of moves to bring you back down with a Ki bar emptying thud, instead use your agility and quick attacks to get a few hits in before he brings that Samurai Sword up for a few more hits on you. Dodge to the side as the majority of attacks will still hit you if you dodge straight back then throw everything but the kitchen sink at Kondo until he’s down, you can resupply at the Shrine just pass the arena.
Onmaroki
Sub Mission: Kiyomizu Defiled.
Onmaroki is the final boss in the Kiyomizu Defiled Sub Mission and thankfully there’s just the Shrine, the Sharp descent down and then the Onmaroki who is a poison based, over grown Turkey who can easily 2 shot you with beak, wing, claw or thrashing attacks. Aim for the legs using Lightning and Fire whilst avoiding Wind damage, which for me didn’t have anywhere near the effect as the other Elements. Don’t hold back against the Onmaroki, there are no other enemies to deal with once it’s down and try out the Soul Core if you get it, it can be a massive help against some of the tougher bosses in the game.
Gozuki
Sub Mission: Crucible Tour.
The Crucible Tour Sub Mission will become available once the Kiyomizu Defiled Sub Mission is done at the Battle Scroll and tasks you with bringing down several Yokai who are then followed by a Gozuki. You will have fought a few of these before if you’re familiar with NIOH 2 and NIOH 3, so avoid the slams and punish the legs whilst conserving the majority of your resources as you have an Onryoki to deal with afterwards.
Onryoki
Sub Mission: Crucible Tour.
The Onryoki in the Crucible Tour Sub Mission will show up after the Gozuki and the other Yokai will have had to brought down so if you’re out of or low on elixirs it could end up being a rough time. Use Lightning, Sloth and Wind to inflict decent damage whilst Slowing the beast down and avoid those balls until you break the chains.
Hino-Enma
Sub Mission: Drawn to Yokai Essence.
Hino-Enma is the first of 3 bosses you will fight after having already taken some tough Yokai Females down including a Tsurara-Onna, Hino-Enma and Ubume in the Drawn to Yokai Essence Sub Mission. The Drawn to Yokai Essence Sub Mission will become available after you have cleared the Scion of the Gods story mission at the Battle Scroll.
Avoid the Paralysis balls, umbrella attacks and kunai all of which are designed to freeze you in place for a time and burst break the dash attack which has tight timings but it’s pretty essential to prevent the heavy damage they inflict if you do get caught out. Don’t get grabbed and try to conserve your resources as you still have 2 bosses to go once Hino-Enma is dead.
Joro-Gumo
Sub Mission: Drawn to Yokai Essence.
Juro-Gumo for the unaware is a truck sized Spider who can slow you down and punish you with jumping, spinning and lunging attacks. Fire and Lightning works very well against her as does Sloth which should allow you to get around the back and attack her rear which will do a lot more damage than going head on. With Juro-Gumo down you have 1 boss left to go if you want to complete the Drawn to Yokai Essence Sub Mission.
Kasha
Sub Mission: Drawn to Yokai Essence.
Kasha is the third and final boss in the Drawn to Yokai Essence and the difficulty here will be determined by how much of a beating you have taken in the previous fights. If you’re out of or low on elixirs then good luck here and obviously as she’s Fire based don’t use that Element against her instead go for Water or Wind whilst using anything else you have left in your inventory including your Living Weapon if its charged.
Nagakura Shinpachi
Sub Mission: Shinsengumi: Best of Five.
Nagakura Shinpachi is the first of 5 Shinsengumi in the Shinsengumi: Best of Five Sub Mission which is available at the Battle Scroll once you have cleared the Scion of the Gods Story Mission and Nagakura is one of the toughest bosses in the Sub Mission.
He loves to slam his Odachi down to create a Lightning AOE which can 1 shot you. He also has a parry which isn’t an ability I believe you can learn for the Odachi which didn’t hit often but it was a 1 shot when I had full health so be mindful if you do suddenly die it’s more than likely down to that. As there’s 5 Shinsengumi to take down in this Sub Mission try and save your inventory for later fights as the final one is easily the toughest. Fortunately, Ninjistsu comes back very quickly so use that as much as you can.
Saito Hajime
Sub Mission: Shinsengumi: Best of Five.
Saito Hajime is another Odachi wielding Shinsengumi Samurai in the Shinsengumi: Best of Five Sub Mission and one who you don’t want to get to close to as his low stance attacks can cripple you leaving you open to high stance blows which will end your run very quickly. Be hyper aggressive in this fight backing away when your Ki gets to low then get back in there when you’re recharged.
Hijikata Toshizo
Sub Mission: Shinsengumi: Best of Five.
Hijikata Toshizo brings his Dual Swords to the third fight in the Shinsengumi: Best of Five Sub Mission and he is very fast with them. With his speed he doesn’t have an abundance of power and breaking his Ki once he’s done with a combo should be second nature for you by this point in the game. Hold onto those resources as much as you can as the next 2 fights are tough.
Kondo Isami
Sub Mission: Shinsengumi: Best of Five.
Kondo Isami is a Sword wielding Shinsegumi Samurai in the Shinsengumi: Best of Five Sub Mission and one who loves nothing more than to halt your progress by emptying your health bar which he can do without breaking a sweat. Do not allow your Ki to drop below 50% and use Sloth or Lightning to slow him down whilst being aggressive with your attacks. Back away as soon as Kondo starts a combo and don’t try to tank the hits as he will punish you for doing so.
Okita Soji
Sub Mission: Shinsengumi: Best of Five.
Okita Soji makes an unwelcome return from the Solitary Blade Sub Mission and is the final boss in the Shinsengumi: Best of Five Sub Mission meaning if you have taken good kick in during the previous 4 fights you might not last long against Okita. Remember that the Sub Missions in NIOH 3 are optional so if the challenge is to much come back at a later date or just skip it completely.
Use anything and everything you have left against Okita including your Living Weapon if you still have it, there’s nothing but victory after this fight so don’t hold back and bring him down by any means possible.
World Bosses
There are 7 bosses who you can take down throughout the Bakumatsu Era some of who are mandatory whilst others are optional and they are as as follows:
Shinsengumi Member Hattori Takeo
Closest Shrine: Shichijo, Shichijo Avenue Ruins.
Head East then up the ramp after taking down the Konaki-Jiji and the 2 Gaki where you will come to Hattori Takeo, a member of the legendary Shinsengumi and he is a boss you can run from if you want to and you might want to as this dude is tough and with those Dual Swords there’s no wonder he’s just standing out in the open. He can employ many ki and health shredding attacks so dodge rather than block as the grapple will shot level 100 players with ease.
Enenra
Closest Shrine: Shijo, Shijo Abandoned Shrine (You need to have cleared the Enemy Base)
Enenra is back from NIOH 2 and he is just as deadly as he was then with flame tornados, fire spurting from the ground, a lunge kick that can spread half the arena and he also has a very high defence. Go on with Water or Wind elemental damage whilst defending against Fire to have an easier time of it.
Mezuki
Closest Shrine: Sanjo, Kawaramachi Crossroads.
You will find Mezuki pacing around the Shijo region and it’s a fairly simple matter to put it down just ty not to aggro the nearby Yokai as if they join in the fight gets significantly more dangerous. Head South from the Sanjo, Kawaramachi Crossroads to be able to find the Mezuki and use Lightning if you’re struggle to shock the Horse into submission.
Gozuki
Closest Shrine: Nijo Castle, Maruta Ruins.
Gozuki will be patrolling the Sanjo region just East of the Maruta Ruins Shrine in the Nijo Castle region so put it down to make the Bakumatsu Era a bit safer.
Joro-Gumo
Closest Shrine: Shirakawa, Yoshidayama Approach.
Joro-Gumo is a truck sized Spider who can be found just East of the Yoshidayama Approach Shrine in the Shirakawa region and one who will drop down to say hello when you try to collect the item on the webbing at the back of the arena. Joro-Gumo is a very powerful boss who can slam, spin and web you all of which is designed to slow you allowing her to feast easier. There are a handful of smaller Spiders in the fight but should just be taken out with your AOE attacks which should primarily be either Fire or Lightning based.
Kamaitachi
Closest Shrine: Gion, Shrine Walk Greatwood.
The NIOH 3 developers do seem to have a lot of love for the Kamaitachi as there seem to be Kamaitachi than any other boss in the game and go North from the Shrine Walk Greatwood Shrine in the Gion region to find another one. Use Lightning, defend against Wind and if this does turn out to be the first Kamaitachi you have fought in NIOH 3 I will be very surprised. Avoid the tail strikes and burst strike the critical hits.
Demon Of Obsession
Closest Shrine: Nijo Castle, Abandoned Temple Outskirts.
The Demon of Obsession is the final “Demon” boss in the game with you also having the Demon of Pride in the Warring States and the Demon of Envy in the Heian Era. The Demon of Obsession is well tucked in the West of Nijo Castle an area you can access by going through the Mibu region which in itself is only accessible once you have cleared the Lesser Crucible in the South West of the Nijo Castle region going West from the Horikawa Market Shrine.
You then need to run up pass the Jailers and Galestorm Oni-Bi to the Enemy Base which is fortified with heavy artillery in the form of Gatling Guns on the far platform as well as a good number of Soldiers allowing you to go safely up through the tunnel and down to the Abandoned Temple Outskirts.
The Demon of Obsession is a hulking, fast, Wind based boss with a massive cannon and a grab which sticks in its mouth located on the belly before chucking bomb in there with you exploding dealing incredible damage to you and none to the boss. You will also have to deal with charging attacks, Wind shockwaves which arc out then back in, a tracking Wind based Cannonball and enough Cannon blasts to make a Naval fleet blush. Use Lightning and Fire and don’t be surprised if you have to come for this boss later in the game. Brutal challenge but that’s why we love these games right?.
Masters
Masters are incredibly skilled Warriors some of who you won’t be able to access until you have completed certain Sub Missions or fulfilled requirements needed to unlock their respective areas. Most of these guys can kill you in a heartbeat so power yourself up before you go against the Masters who are as follows:
Sawamura Yasusuke
Location: Bakumatsu, Shijo, Shijo Depression.
Vocation: Tonfa Master.
Rest at the Shijo Depression Shrine in the Shijo region which you can do after you clear the Enemy Base then go North and enter the building to find Sawamura Yasusuke, a very proficient Tonfa Master.
Being in the Bakumatsu Era, Sawamura is a big step up from any Master you will have fought previously and I found myself in trouble on more than one occasion as his strikes can smash your Ki bar in a couple of hits level you open to a life ending grapple so manage your Ki, use your Guardian Spirit and even your living weapon if you need to, you can rest and resupply once you take the win against Yasusuke.
Ishikawa Goemon
Location: Bakumatsu, Shirakawa, Yasaka Shrine.
Vocation: Talon Master.
Head South from the Yasaka Shrine in the Shirakawa region pass the Itsumade and down to the walled off temple in the Gion region where you can summon Ishikawa Goemon from the grave and this guy is not happy about being challenged.
Ishikawa is a very powerful Talon Master who seems to the entire Talon skill tree unlocked and a Ki meter which is seemingly never ending as it’s very hard to guard break him before your own Ki runs out and if it does even level 150+ players will be back at the Shrine as those Talons will blend your health bar to 0 very easily.
Use the space in the arena to create distance then use Onmyo and Ninjitsu to attack at a distance, this is not a Master I recommend getting to close to as you will pay the price in doing so. Personal space is surprisingly important to this Masterful Ghost.
Takahashi Deishu
Location: Bakumatsu, Nijo Castle, Horikawa Market.
Vocation: Spear Master.
Go North from the Horikawa Market Shrine in the Nijo Castle region staying on the West path to avoid the Gatling gun at the top of the stairs if you take the Eastern path. Enter the Temple and speak to Takahashi who will ask if you feel up to a duel. I don’t recommend saying yes until you have your best gear, Spirits, Onmyo and Ninjitsu equipped and you might want to farm a few more levels before taking this Spear Master on.
My recommended hesitation comes from the fact the Spear Takahashi wields has incredible range and more power than nigh on any boss you will have faced up until this point, he can easily half health you per hit then finish you off as you try and heal. The fact his Spear is Wind based gives him a much higher damage output than it would have if it were neutral but that’s a challenge you need to overcome and given what you’ve gone through in NIOH 3 to get to this point you will have Takahashi dropped soon enough.
Shishido Kagetoshi
Location: Bakumatsu, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Maruta Riverved.
Vocation: Kusarigama Master.
Shishido Kagetoshi is another Master who is very well tucked away and to find him go East then North up the stairs from the Maruta Riverbed watching out for the Mermaid ambush as if you were going towards the Enemy Base. Drop down off the left side after going through the water where the Wind Oni-Bi spawn, kick the tree down if you want a shortcut and enter the building on your right.
Summon Shishido from the grave then get ready for a very unpleasant fight against a Kusarigama Master and being a Ninja class he is incredibly fast, agile and can dodge the majority of your attacks as soon as you think to press the button.
The tight confines and high range of the Kusarigama mean you aren’t safe anywhere in this arena so stay as agile as you can and conserve that Ki meter opting for 1 or 2 strikes instead of going for massive combos. If he gets old of you it’s game over so keep distance and use hard hitting skills, Guardian Spirits, Ninjitsu and Yokai Summons such as Flying Bolt or the Demons if you have them.
Takashima Shuhan
Location: Bakumatsu, Kyoto Imperial Palace, Imperial Palace.
Vocation: Axe Master.
Takashima Shuhan is an Axe Master who is tucked away more than any other Master in NIOH 3 as before you access the grave where you summon Takashima you firstly need to have completed the Beast of the Underworld Sub Mission where Thomas Glover then gives you access to all of the Cannons throughout the Bakumatsu Era. Go East from the Imperial Palace Shrine to the bridge then look left to see 2 Soldiers up on the platform who you can snipe.
You then want to look at the pink spiked crystals which block your path from going behind the platform, look in front of the crystals across the street to see the Cannon you can fire to clear the pink crystals allowing you to then go around to the back of the area and summon Takashima Shuhan, an incredibly powerful Samurai wielding a sodding great Hammer.
Takashima is an Axe Master who favours high stance for the most part meaning the attacks he uses will crush you Ki meter and then your health bar with virtually every swing so use your agility and don’t try and tank the hits unless you like respawning at the Shrine. Use your agility, Onmyo and Ninjitsu to help being this guy down where the strength of your build will determine whether you’re able to come away with the win or if you need to do a bit more levelling before going up against Takashima again.
That’s all of the NIOH 3 1864 CE Bakumatsu Bosses, who was your favourite boss to deal with?.
