Roadmap

Borderlands is a Looter Shooter which defines the genre as there is practically non stop shooting and a serious amount of loot available as you make your way across Pandora as 1 of the 4 Vault Hunters:

  1. Brick, a Berserker who likes nothing more than to punch enemies into mist regardless of how big they are.
  2. Lilith, a powerful Siren who focuses on elemental damage and defence.
  3. Mordecai, a Hunter well versed in long distance combat who also has a deadly bird of Prey for company.
  4. Roland, a Soldier with a turret you can use to take down enemies and heal your team mates.

Choose any Vault Hunter with Lilith or Roland being good choices for players who aren’t used to first person shooters then get ready for one hell of a game. As you complete missions and optional missions you will earn xp as well as for killing enemies. Xp levels you up when you have enough which then, at level 5, unlocks your Skill Tree and action skill. Each of the 4 Vault Hunters have their own action skill and subsequent skills you can earn by continuing to level up drastically increasing your chances of staying alive for longer.

When you first start the game it may look a bit overwhelming but just focus on the main story missions then once you have a grasp on how the game plays and what you need to be doing you can then go through the optional missions which are represented by a yellow exclamation mark on the map.

Your first main task in Borderlands is to get out of the Arid Badlands and through to the Rust Commons all of which is done through the story missions so if we focus on that first, you will unlock the following trophies along the way:

Now that you will be out of the Arid Badlands and have access to the Dahl Headland you will now be in the mid game which can significantly increase the challenge and power of the enemies so you will more than likely need to earn a few more levels and get some better gear so go back into the Badlands and work towards unlocking:

With all of the missions completed in the Badlands you will be able to push through to New Haven, a relatively safe hub in the Rust Commons and an area where you can go through and access the rest of the areas in the game. There’s everything here from vending machines to the Golden Chest and as it’s a good place to start to head through the rest of the game we’ll focus on working through the story to the Crimson Fastness biome where you will unlock the following trophies along the way:

Now that you’re in the Crimson Fastness you can then go back through all of the areas you will have fought through and work towards completing all of the missions which unlocks:

The end game can be challenging as you will have to fight through Army’s of high level Crimson Lance and Guardians so ensure you have your beast gear equipped before going into the Crimson Lance Enclave biome where you can round the main game off. Don’t worry you can continue playing the game after you roll the credits but for now focus on unlocking these trophies:

Well done rolling the credits now if we look at the miscellaneous weapon based trophies some of which you will more than likely have unlocked throughout the game anyway but just in case you have been playing with the same weapon type and utilising minimal elemental damage you will need to ensure you have got these trophies unlocked:

With the weaponry side of things done there are a few other miscellaneous trophies you need to unlock which are:

Now depending on the Vault Hunter you chose at the start of the game you will have already fulfilled their action skill kill requirements, you will now need to go back to the title menu and choose a new playthrough ensuring you don’t delete your main save. The other 3 Vault Hunters who you didn’t play as will have their own action skill kill requirements with all 4 of them being:

Next up we have the co-op trophies to knock off the list so get yourself at least 1 co-op partner with another waiting in the wings as you need 2 co-op partners to unlock And They’ll Tell Two Friends but all other co-op trophies can be done with 1 co-op partner. Work through the game killing bosses and completing missions in co-op to unlock these trophies:

With all of the above done and unlocked you should be on the high side of around levels 30-35 so quit back to the title menu and choose playthrough 2 where you will earn a serious amount of xp per kill as well as for completing the story and optional missions again which will help you push through to unlocking these trophies:

With all of that work put in you will then officially be the:

Levelling up is an important element of Borderlands as even 1 level can make the difference between getting your ass kicked or being the one to come out with the win. You earn xp for practically any action in the game be it killing enemies, completing story or optional missions or even challenges by killing enemies in certain ways. Keep playing through the game to the end of your first playthrough where you should be around level 30-35.

Keep playing through playthrough 2 until you hit level 50 which will take a fair amount of time but you will be pretty damn hardcore when you hit level 50 unlocking Ding! Champion in the process.

PlayStation Bronze Trophy

There’s No “I” In “Team”
Completed 15 missions in co-op

You need to be careful of this one as there aren’t any repeatable missions in Borderlands, what you can do though and what I recommend you do if you’re already at the end game is have either you or your co-op partner create a new character then go to Fyrestone where you can invite someone into your game. You both then need to go through 15 missions in co-op without either of you leaving or disconnecting until the missions are turned in.

This is cumulative meaning you don’t need to do 15 missions back to back with a o-op partner just make sure you accept the mission be it story or optional then complete the mission for it to count. Complete any 15 missions in co op to unlock There’s No “I” In “Team”.

Borderlands United We Stand trophy
PlayStation Gold Trophy

United We Stand
Defeated the Rakk Hive, the Vault Boss, Sledge, Krom, or Flynt in a co-op game

There are several main story bosses you can fight throughout the game and having a co-op partner will, in certain respects make them easier to take down. However, the enemies do toughen up when there’s more than one of you in a game so bare that in mind. The easiest boss to take down in co-op which will require at least 1 other online player to be in your game is Sledge, the first main boss of the game. If you feel like taking down any of the other bosses:

  • Flynt.
  • Krom.
  • Rakk Hive.
  • Vault Boss.

Then feel free, just as long as you defeat a boss in co-op which can be done after you initially take the boss down as saving and quitting will reset the bosses allowing you to farm them for gear. Take down any of the above bosses in online co op to unlock United We Stand.
