Challenges in Borderlands 2 can be anything from inflicting damage on enemies right the way through to farming, finding and killing an incredible rare enemy who has lower RNG chances of spawning than most of the legendary loot throughout the game.

There are 17 different categories for the challenges that you need to focus on, there are a lot more than this but for the purposes of unlocking Challenge Accepted you only need to worry about these 17:

Fortunately, where you only need to do the first level of these challenges even if you are focused on 1 weapon type and 1 play style it won’t take long to mop up the rest of them providing you have half way decent luck with little Jimmy.

Elemental Challenges

Elemental Challenges are ones which require you to use the offensive elemental effects throughout the game either as direct damage or damage over time (DoT) where an enemy needs to have received enough damage of a certain element type which then causes corresponding colour damage to come off their body even when you’re not attacking. Elemental weaponry can be taught to you by Marcus by accepting his 4 side missions when you get to Sanctuary and the Elemental Challenges along with their requirements are:

  1. Acid Trip.
Kill 20 enemies with Corrosive damage.

Vehicle Challenges

Vehicle Challenges can be a bit challenging as you need to have an online connection, a Technical and a high powered gun for one, other than that you essentially need to kill other enemies or destroy vehicles whilst in a vehicle. The Vehicle Challenges ad their requirements are:

  3. One Van Leaves.

This requires an online connection and a friend who you can preferably speak to. Spawn a Technical (you build on for Ellie in the Dust) then get in the back of the vehicle on the flatbed. Have your pal drive then you shoot the enemies. Kill 1 enemy to fulfil this Challenge.
  5. Turret Syndrome.
Kill 10 enemies with a Turret or Vehicle Weapon.

Health and Recovery Challenges correlate to recovery and reviving people in certain ways. This is another section which requires an online connection and the Health + Recovery Challenges along with their requirements are:

  1. Badass Bingo.
Get 1 Second Wind by killing a Badass. Fink’s Slaughterhouse would be a good place for this especially if you have a fully stocked Rocket Launcher ready to go.
  2. Death, Wind and Fire.
Get 1 Second With by killing enemies with Incendiary DoT. It must be the fire damage chipping away at the enemy health bar and ultimately killing them to get you back up. No other damage will suffice.
  3. Green Meanie.
Get 1 Second With by killing enemies with Corrosive DoT. It must be the Corrosive damage that kills the enemy.
  4. Heal Plz.
Recover 1,000 Health either through collecting ampules or through skills.
  5. I’ll Just Help Myself.
Get Second Winds by killing enemies using any damage necessary.
  6. I’m Back! Shocked?.
Get 1 Second Wind by killing enemies with Shock DoT. It must be the Shock damage that kills the enemy, not just a shock weapon firing at the enemy.
  7. This Is No Time for Lazy!.
Revive a co=op partner 5 times. Another Challenge with an online connection requirement. When your co-op partner gets downed, help them back to their feet. Do this 4 more times.

Grenade Challenges

Grenade Challenges are all based around using different types of Grenades either for dealing specific types of damage and even healing if you get the right ordnance. The Grenade Challenges and their completion requirements are:

  1. Chemical Sprayer.
Kill 10 enemies with Area of Effect grenades. These are grenades such as MIRV’s which spawn child grenades affecting a wider area.
  2. EXPLOOOOOSIONS!.
Kill 10 enemies with MIRV grenades. These are grenades which spawn child grenades.
  3. Health Vampire.
Kill 10 enemies with Transfusion grenades. These are grenades which heal you upon damaging the enemy.
  4. Pull the Pin.
    Kill 10 enemies with grenades.
  5. Singled Out.
Kill 10 enemies with Singularity grenades. These are grenades which pull enemies in before exploding.
  6. Woah, Black Betty.
Kill 10 enemies with Bouncing Betty grenades. These are grenades that bounce along the floor before exploding.

Shield Challenges

Shield Challenges are all about taking and returning damage in various ways, the Shield Challenges and their level 1 requirements are:

  1. Ammo Eater.
Absorb 20 bullets with an Absorption Shield.
  2. Amp It Up.
Kill 5 enemies whilst buffed by an Amp shield.
  3. Game of Thorns.
Kill 5 enemies with reflected damage used by a Spike Shield.
  4. Roid Rage.
Kill 5 enemies while buffed by a Maylay Shield. These are Shields which usually increase your melee damage once broken.
  5. Super Novas.
Kill 5 enemies with a Nova Shield blast.

Rocket Launcher Challenges

Rocket Launchers are incredibly high damage weapons designed to either shred tough enemies or get a Second Wind. I recommend always having a Rocket Launcher equipped just to get back up and the Rocket Launcher Challenges and their requirements are:

  1. Catch-A-Rocket!.
Kill 5 enemies with direct Rocket Launcher hits. This Challenge will stay (undiscovered) until you have reached level 5 in Splish Splash which requires you to kill 200 enemies with splash damage from Rocket Launchers.
  2. Gone with the Second Wind.
Get 2 Second Winds with Rocket Launchers.
  3. Rocket and Roll.
Kill 10 enemies with Rocket Launchers.
  4. Shield Basher.
Kill 5 Shielded enemies with one Rocket Each. Bloodshot Stronghold is a good place for this.
  5. Sky Rockets in Flight….
Kill 2 enemies from long range with Rocket Launchers. Fast travel to Three Horns, Valley then shoot the Bullymongs in the distance or any other long range kills you can get.
  6. Splish Splash.
Kill 5 enemies with splash damage from a Rocket Launcher. This is damage that lands near an enemy then use the blast to kill them rather than a direct hit. Caustic Cavern or Tundra Express Varkids is a good call to get this done quickly.

Kill 5 unaware enemies with Sniper Rifles. Frostburn Canyon is a good place for this just keep your distance.

Assault Rifle Challenges

Assault Rifle Challenges are some of the easiest Challenges to complete, grab an AR then get to killing which should be fairly easy given the power and magazine size these weapons present. The Assault Rifle Challenges and their level 1 requirements are:

SMG Challenges

SMG Challenges focus on standard use, there’s nothing to worry about here, grab any SMG and shred some enemies. The SMG Challenges and their requirements are:

  1. Constructive Criticism.
Get 25 Critical Hits with SMGs.
  2. Hail of Bullets.
    Kill 25 enemies using SMGs.
  3. High Rate of Ire.
Kill 10 enemies with Critical Hits whilst using an SMG.
  4. More Like Submachine FUN.
Get 2 Second Winds with SMGs.

Shotgun Challenges

Shotguns deal incredible damage especially if you find the right combination of magazine and cost per round. Combine that with elemental damage and there’s little that can stand in your way. The Shotgun Challenges and their unlock requirements for level 1 are:

  1. Faceful of Buckshot.
Get 50 Critical Hits with Shotguns.

Pistol Challenges

Pistols deal a surprising amount of damage with the correct combinations and some of the best Legendaries in the game happen to be Pistols as well. The Pistol Challenges and their level 1 completion requirements are:

  1. Deadeye.
Get 25 Critical Hits using Pistols.
  2. Hard Boiled.
get 2 Second Winds with Pistols.
  3. Pistolero.
Kill 10 enemies with Critical Hits using Pistols.
  4. Quickdraw.
Kill 10 enemies after aiming down the Pistol sights. Aim then get a shoot, aim then shoot. Don’t stay ADS for prolonged periods of time.
  5. The Killer.
    Kill 25 enemies with Pistols.

Melee Challenges

Run out of bullets, grenades, rockets and anything else offensive? Punch the enemy until their dead! and with just 2 Melee Challenges to complete it shouldn’t take long to get this one done. The Melee Challenges and their level 1 completion requirements are:

  1. A Squall of Violence.
Kill 20 enemies with Melee attacks using Bladed Guns. These are guns which can be any type except from Rocket Launchers which have a blade on the front of the weapon, when you melee, rather than using your normal attack you will use the Blade on the Gun instead.
  2. Fisticuffs!.
Kill 25 enemies with Melee attacks.

General Combat Challenges

General Combat Challenges try to encapsulate every other type of challenge which hasn’t been covered in any of the challenges above. The General Combat Challanges and their level 1 completion requirements are:

  1. …I Got to Boogie.
Kill 10 enemies at Night. There isn’t a traditional day night cycle but there is a clock in Lynchwood. Kill enemies between 20:00 and 08:00. I wouldn’t worry about this one as you will easily kill more than enough enemies just through natural play.
  2. …To Pay the Bills.
Kill 20 enemies whilst using your Action Skill. 2 of the 4 base game characters’ action skills are offence based (Commando and Gunzerker) the Siren and Assassin are more for neutralizing and stealth so ensure you get at least 20 kills which will come naturally through the game.
  3. Afternoon Delight.
Kill 50 enemies during the day. Use the clock in Lynchwood if you’re concerned about this one and kill between 08:00 and 20:00 but if you haven’t managed to get level 1 finished by the time you have made it Lynchwood I will be amazed.
  4. Boomerbang.
Kill 5 enemies with Tediore reloads. Tediore guns can be thrown at enemies and depending on how much ammo you have left in the magazine will determine the damage dealt. Get any Tediore weapon then throw it at low level enemies ensuring the explosion from the reload kills the enemy.
  5. Critical Acclaim.
Kill 20 enemies with Critical Hits. No rainbows required.
  6. Gun Slinger.
Deal 5,000 damage with Tediore reloads. Every time you reload a Tediore gun it will be thrown and deal damage. 5,000 is a very low damage requirement so it shouldn’t take you many reloads to hit the target.
  7. Knee-Deep in Brass.
Fire 1,00 rounds. If this needs explaining, Borderlands 2 is not a game for you.
  8. Not Full of Monkeys
Kill 10 enemies with Stationary Barrels. Use any of the elemental barrels around the various biomes to kill enemies. It needs to be the explosion or sequential damage which follows to get the kill.

Miscellaneous Challenges

Miscellaneous Challenges require you to complete challenges, side missions, duels and find and find that elusive little fucker, Jimmy Jenkins!. The Miscellaneous Challenges and their level 1 completion requirements are:

  1. Compl33tionist.
Compete 10 optional mission objectives. Focus on the optional mission objectives on the right side of the screen and ensure you complete at least 10 as you make your way through the game and side missions.
  2. Haters Gonna Hate.
Win 1 Duel. You need an online conneciton and another player in your game who you need to Melee then once they Melee you it will initiate a Duel. Win the Duel.
  3. JEEEEENKINSSSSSS!!!.
Jimmy Jenkins is an elusive little robot who hides in loot crates. A good farming method is the 4 chests in the room to the right of where you found Bloodwing’s Feather in the main story. Open the 4 boxes against the right wall then when none of the enemies are Jimmy, save and quit, run back and try again. Alternatively, run down the left side of Opportunity and loot the boxes behind the small barriers, there’s less chance there but a shorter run back. Good luck!.
  4. Sidejacked.
Complete 5 side missions. See those yellow exclamation marks on the map? Finish 5 of those quests.
  5. Yo Dawg,I Heard You Like Challenges….
Complete 5 Challenges. The whole point of this guide is challenges so you know what to do here.

That’s the Borderlands 2 Challenge Accepted trophy guide complete, I hope it helped you complete every required challenge.
